Internal e-mail messaging

Is the messaging feature an email account?

The internal email feature is not identical to real-world email, but it is similar. Players can use internal email to send notes to other players or to entire teams. Additionally, the game uses internal email itself to post notifications, invitations, and other interactions with players.

Where are my messages?

You can find all your internal email messages in the My Messages window at the left hand side of your Profile page (also in the same position on the New Message page). To let you know you have messages, an abbreviated My Messages box appears on the Home page directly below the navigation area on the left hand side. If you have messages, this box will say something like 7 unread, of 18 received.

The My Messages box on your Profile page gives an overview of your messages, without you having to open each one. You can see:
  • The messages subject (truncated with a "..." if over 20 characters)
  • The sender's screen name
  • When you received the message
  • If you have read the message
  • The Delete icon for permanently removing messages
When a message has been read, the date received goes to an italic rust color.

Clicking the subject of a message opens the Message View page. On the central portion of the View Message page you see the full message in a scrolling window. At the top next to the subject line you see the Reply icon (). When you click the Reply icon the New Message page opens with the receivers ID (not their screen name) in the TO field and the subject repeated prefixed with "Re: ". Additionally, at the bottom of the New Message form, by the submit button, there is a checkbox for appending the original message to your response.

The other way to reach the New Message page is to click on the New Message link in the navigation area on the upper left hand side of each page. When you are sending a message from the New Message page there are a few things to remember. First and foremost, you must use a player's ID in the TO line of the message. To find a player's ID go to their Profile page. Use the Find User icon () by the side of the TO field to go to the Find User page. Second, remember that currently only one player's ID can go in the TO field. Unlike real email, you can not send one message to multiple people (except when messaging a team, as explained below).

Finally, remember that although the New Message form uses a regular <textarea> box (as opposed to a rich text input control), you are restricted in what tags you can include in your message. The allowed tags are:
  • <b> and </b>
  • <i> and </i>
  • <br>
  • <p>
  • <li>
  • <red> and </red>
  • <green> and </green>
  • <blue> and </blue>
The familiar tags have the same meanings as in HTML (bold, italic, line break, paragraph and bullet). Red, green and blue are simply ways of coloring your message text. Any other tags you use will be modified so that they are not interpreted as HTML.

When you send a message it is delivered immediately. There are no expiration dates on internal email messages, which means they are never automatically removed. Moreover, at this time there is no limit on the number of messages you can send or receive, though there are practical reasons to prune your My Messages box occasionally.

Can I send a message to everyone on my team?

To send a note to everyone on a team you must be a member of the team. Go to the Team Information page. On the left hand side below the navigation area you see a new message form consisting of just a subject field, a body, and a submit button. Using this form sends a message to each team member. At the bottom of your message a statement will be automatically appended, something like:

----------------------------------
Sent to members of Los Frogs
----------------------------------

  Step-by-step

1.
The My Messages window on your Profile page

2.
Your messages can include a limited set of HTML tags.

3.
