The overview board

How can the Top Board player know what his or her team is doing on the Lower Board?

What is the slideshow feature on a game's Information page?

If a game has the visibility option set to Top board sees all pieces or Top board sees own team pieces, the top board player of each team has an overview board. The overview board is displayed beside the top board. It gives a high-level perspective on where the lower board pieces are placed. Between the top board and the overview board a top board player knows where his team is placed, how the lower board pieces are clustered, where lower board threats are most likely to have an impact, and how well his team members are cooperating.

However, by design, the overview board does not provide the top board player with full information. In particular, the top board player does not know what lower board piece a dot on the overview board represents. He or she therefore does not know if how the piece can attack or defend. Moreover, the top board player may only see the lower board pieces on the same side. In that case, the top board player depends on his or her teammates to communicate where the opposing sides' pieces are on the lower board.

  Step-by-step

1.
The top board positioned on the left is the top player's playing board. The overview board, on the right, shows an outline of how the top board positions translate to lower board play.

2.
The overview board provides the images for a slideshow of the game to-date on the game's Information page.
