Are all games timed?

Not all games have timed turns. Again, this is an option at the time when you create a game. There are three different possibilities. They are:
  • All turns time limited
  • No time limits
  • Top board time limits only

All turns time limited means that the turn time you select applies to every player. No time limits means that each player will have all the time they require to take each turn. Top board time limits only is the most interesting option, and more complex then the other two options.

Top board time limits only is typically used when the turn-taking scheme selected is Top board turns ordered. When you are playing a Top board turns ordered game, the Lower board players can take their turns at any time during their side's round. That means as soon as the Top board player moves, the round is over and the Lower board players who did not move during that round forfeit their turns. Adding a time limit to the Top board players adds a bit of discipline to the teams' rounds because the round's duration is fixed. When the Top board is not subject to time limits, and the game is Top board turns ordered, a round may last any amount of time.

  Step-by-step

1.
Select a time limit for turns when you create a game that has timed turns. This menu gives all the available options.

2.
In order for turn times to have any effect, you need to select one of the two options that make use of turn time limits.

3.
As a player (or as a watcher) you will see the time remaining in the current turn displayed in the Turn Control at the top left hand side of the page above the playing board.

4.
Your turn timing selection will help others find your game, if they are looking for games with certain attributes. This image shows part of the results of a search.
